The incoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, is among those taking office and is noted for his work defending indigenous rights. Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico City’s mayor, has expressed support for the process and indicated her probable attendance at the swearing-in ceremony, if invited.
Invited persons are solely responsible for their registration. The session will be a historic moment in Mexico City’s judicial system, as it marks the first time judges and magistrates have been elected in a democratic process.
