Fighting the "Russian Onslaught": Essential Defensive Fortifications to Inflict Hefty Casualties on the Enemy Forces
Anticipated defense mechanisms poised to inflict high civilian casualties among Russians.
In the face of a numerical disadvantage against the Russians, Ukrainian forces must inflict maximum damage to maintain their ground. To achieve this objective, strong defensive structures are needed, especially in the Dnipropetrovsk region which is under threat of Russian invasion.
Recently, military-affiliated project Deepstate received authorization from the armed forces to inspect the defensive structures in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Previous reports have suggested that Kremlin's forces might have moved towards Dnipropetrovsk, yet Kyiv has disputed these claims.
The quality of defensive structures has drawn criticism in Ukraine. It is commonly voiced that certain areas along the front line lack sufficient defensive structures. The construction of trenches, earth mounds, barbed wire, tank traps, and other impediments is crucial for Ukrainian fighters to impede and engage the larger Russian troops.
Deepstate has raised concerns over "critical problems" with fortifications in the Kharkiv region. However, in Dnipropetrovsk, they learned from conversations with troops that defenses are being developed in reasonably good quality, albeit the extent of it was unknown. As a result, they conducted a ground inspection.
"We observed the second of three lines of fortifications being constructed in both Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions," Deepstate reports. "Unfortunately, due to security measures, we cannot reveal everything, but there are intriguing details."
Emphasis is placed on building barriers that incorporate various obstacles such as tank traps, dragon's teeth, or minefields. These fortifications are being built in a staggered defense pattern, aiming to halt the enemy and wear them down by inflicting significant losses.
Deepstate was granted permission to release some photos of the structures. These images display several rows of trenches, earth mounds, and multiple concrete blocks arranged in a line. Deepstate notes that building such structures is almost the only strategy in the fight against the "Moscow horde" - massive infantry forces dispatched by Russian commanders without worrying about losses. This is the foremost issue on the front, Deepstate states.
"A never-ending horde that consistently exerts pressure on our fighters enables the enemy to advance, as the Russian troops do not compute losses and are willing to sacrifice thousands of infantrymen to accomplish their objectives," Colonel Reisner told ntv.de. Reisner also emphasized the effectiveness of barbed wire in stopping these frequently used infantry units.
Deepstate likely saw only what the military intended for them to see. They refrain from passing judgment on the quality but point out an improvement in the process of building defenses. Deepstate also draws attention to internal challenges within the Ukrainian forces. "It doesn't matter how well the fortifications are built if there's no one to defend them," writes Deepstate. "It would be advantageous to prioritize the personnel assigned for defense in order to inflict as much damage on the enemy as possible."

- Engineering Barriers: These include anti-tank ditches (also known as "dragon's teeth"), barbed wire (including concertina wire), minefields, and mine barriers. These barriers are designed to slow down enemy advances and inflict significant casualties[2][4].
- Fortifications: The defenses are reinforced by various types of positions, including underground shelters. This helps protect troops from aerial attacks and provides secure locations for command and control operations[2][4].
- Layered Defense System: The entire setup is part of a layered defense strategy, which aims to delay and exhaust the enemy by forcing them to navigate through multiple lines of obstacles[2].
- FPV Drones: The Ukrainian forces are aware of the challenges posed by FPV drones used by Russian forces for reconnaissance and are incorporating measures to counter these threats into their defensive preparations[2].

To ensure the upholding of community and employment policies within the military context, it is essential for Deepstate to scrutinize the quality of defensive structures amidst the ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine. This analysis, in turn, will enable the identification of any internal challenges within the Ukrainian forces that may affect their defense capabilities and employability.
Detailed reports aboutengineering barriers, such as anti-tank ditches (also known as "dragon's teeth"), barbed wire (including concertina wire), minefields, and mine barriers, play a significant role in slowing down enemy advances and inflicting hefty casualties during wars and conflicts. The establishment of a robust layered defense system, incorporating these barriers and underground shelters, can potentially enhance the military's ability to protect troops from aerial attacks and provide secure locations for command and control operations.
