Anticipated Deep Postseason Runs for League Champions in CIF-SS Girls Basketball Playoffs: La Mirada and Whitney Prepared for Successful Playoff Journeys

Girls Basketball Playoffs Kick Off in Southern California

The CIF-Southern Section divisional playoffs for girls basketball are set to begin on Thursday, February 13, with some exciting matchups scheduled. Among the teams vying for the championship are Bishop Amat High, Whitney High, Gahr High, Cerritos High, La Mirada High, and others.

In Division 3A, Bishop Amat High and Whitney High are set to face off. Meanwhile, Gahr High, an at-large representative in Division 3A, will be looking to make a deep run in the postseason. The outcome of Gahr High's first-round game against Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) is currently unavailable, as search results mostly contain pre-season or early season league information or unrelated sports.

Gahr High's roster is compact, with only 10 players, including three seniors, two sophomores, and one junior making up the solid starting lineup. In Division 4A, La Mirada High, with a record of 16-10 and a league record of 9-1, will be looking to make a strong showing. La Mirada High's roster consists of ten players, nine of whom are seniors. Sophomore Jordin Shaw is the second-leading scorer for La Mirada High.

Cerritos High, in Division 3AA, will open the postseason against third-ranked Lancaster High. Cerritos High started the regular season with two wins but then went into a slump, losing 14 of the next 17 games. Senior Ambar Multani leads Cerritos High in scoring, with junior Cameron Lacorte complementing her in the scoring department.

La Mirada High, who moved up from Division 5AA for the current season, will face either California High or Beaumont High in the second round, depending on the outcome of their first-round game. Lancaster High began the season with 11 straight wins and finished third in the Golden League. Highland High is the current second-place team in the Golden League.

YULA tied for the top spot in the Independence League, a game ahead of third-place Pacifica Christian High/Santa Monica. Orange High, in Division 4A, has a record of 14-10 and a league record of 4-4. The CIF-Southern Section divisional playoffs second round is scheduled for Saturday, February 15.

A potential quarterfinal game for Gahr High could be against top-seeded Lawndale High. Gahr High lost to Downey High in the last game of the regular season and split the season series with YULA. Gahr High has not scored 60 points in its last 10 contests after getting to that point four times in December.

Cerritos High finished in third place in a top-heavy 605 League and had a roller coaster of a season due to injuries and illnesses. Despite the challenges, they are ready to make a strong showing in the postseason. The playoffs are sure to be exciting, with each team bringing their unique strengths and strategies to the court. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of these teams as they compete for the championship.
