Anticipated dark thriller series by Netflix unveils its initial trailer, featuring a daring spin on the theme of retribution.
The highly anticipated Taiwanese series, The Resurrected, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 9, 2025. This unique revenge thriller, unlike typical offerings in the genre, is set in the fictional city of Benkha.
The series follows the story of two mothers, Wang Hui-chun, played by Shu Qi, and Chao Ching, portrayed by Sinje Lee, who are on a quest for justice. Their daughters have fallen victim to a telecommunications fraud and kidnapping scheme, and conventional means of justice have proven futile.
In a desperate bid to seek vengeance, they enlist the help of a mysterious goddess to perform a forbidden ritual, which resurrects the deceased ringleader of the fraud ring, Chang Shih-kai, played by Fu Meng-Po, for seven days. The resurrected Chang is subjected to relentless punishment and moral reckoning as the mothers pursue their revenge.
However, their quest soon spirals out of control as dark secrets emerge, challenging their alliance and forcing them to confront the limits of justice and their own morality. The series blends supernatural elements with a tense, moral complexity.
Shu Qi and Sinje Lee, who are making their first appearance in a Chinese-language Netflix series, express their excitement about their roles. Alyssa Chia also appears in a special guest role.
The series is helmed by Leste Chen and Hsu Chao-jen. It explores themes of justice, morality, and the limits of revenge. The synopsis suggests that many dark secrets will be unraveled throughout the series.
Before its official release, early reactions and buzz surrounding The Resurrected are starting to generate. The series is already being hailed as a must-watch for the colder months. In fact, it will be showcased at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in September.
Yueh-sin, played by Chung Hsin-ling, is the mother of Chang Shih-kai. Not much is known about new characters or plot developments at this time.
