Anticipated complete accord for enormous Benjamin Sesko transfer to Newcastle United, according to latest reports
Manchester United have secured the signing of highly-rated young striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, in a deal reported to be worth £73.6 million (€85 million). Sesko has agreed to a five-year contract at Old Trafford, putting an end to Newcastle United's pursuit of the Slovenian talent.
Earlier this summer, Newcastle United had a bid accepted by RB Leipzig, with an initial €82.5 million (£68.4 million) plus add-ons, but Sesko expressed his preference for a move to Manchester United. Leipzig advanced discussions with the Red Devils, who eventually met Leipzig's valuation and secured the transfer.
The transfer fee for Sesko has been structured to allow Newcastle to spend more of any potential Alexander Isak fee this summer. Isak, who has gone AWOL from preseason plans to force a move to Liverpool, has been identified as a potential replacement for Sesko at RB Leipzig.
Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, is looking to address a lack of midfield options following an injury to Joe Willock. The club is also considering the signing of another defender before the transfer window closes.
Meanwhile, Manchester United's interest in Sesko was first reported in March, with the club identified as one of two potential suitors for the striker, alongside Newcastle United. Sesko's decision to join Manchester United was confirmed by reporter Sacha Tavolieri.
Arsenal were originally linked to Sesko, but they moved on to sign Viktor Gyokeres instead. RB Leipzig did not qualify for the Champions League, finishing seventh in the table, which increased the likelihood of Sesko's sale.
Sesko, who is valued at €70m according to Transfermarkt, was formally presented to Manchester United supporters on August 10, 2025. The 20-year-old striker is expected to provide much-needed firepower to Manchester United's attack, as they look to challenge for honours in the upcoming season.
Manchester United's signing of Benjamin Sesko marks a shift in the European-leagues' football landscape, as the Premier League club secured the Slovenian talent from RB Leipzig, overshadowing Newcastle United's initial bid. Sesko's move to Old Trafford indicates a focus on sports success, especially in the premier-league, as Manchester United looks to boost their attack for the upcoming season.
