India's film industry is gearing up for an epic showdown at the box office this Independence Day weekend (August 14-17, 2025), with two highly anticipated films, War 2 and Coolie, set to duke it out for the top spot.

The action-packed War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is poised to make waves with its star-studded cast led by Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. The film is expected to break records as the biggest Bollywood opener of 2025, raking in around Rs 30-Rs 35 crore net on its opening day. Ashutosh Rana also features in the film, with the rest of the cast yet to be unveiled. War 2's narrative revolves around Jr NTR's character, who plays a robot.

On the other hand, Rajinikanth's Coolie promises to be a significant contender, featuring an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan in cameo appearances. The film is predicted to collect a staggering Rs 100 crore opening at the Indian box office, smashing records for a Tamil film. Additionally, Coolie is expected to beat Leo as the biggest opening Tamil film ever, with an estimated global collection of around Rs 150 crore on its first day.

The Independence Day weekend is set to witness a thrilling box office race between these two films. While War 2 is tipped to take an edge on the opening day, Coolie has shown stronger and steadier momentum throughout the weekend. War 2's collections are projected to reach approximately Rs 175–180 crore in its first four days, with the biggest single day (Independence Day itself) at about Rs 57.5–57.85 crore. By day 7, War 2's total domestic collections are expected to reach around Rs 199–200 crore, but the collections are expected to start declining after the weekend.

In stark contrast, Coolie posted stronger numbers during the Independence Day weekend with Rs 65 crore net on day one, followed by Rs 54.75 crore (Friday), Rs 39.5 crore (Saturday), and Rs 35.25 crore (Sunday). This has propelled Coolie's domestic collections to surpass Rs 190-200 crore by the Monday after Independence Day.

If both War 2 and Coolie receive positive feedback from audiences, they could break domestic box office records and collectively earn over Rs 500 crore in the first four days. As of now, Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava holds the record for the biggest opening day collection in 2025 with Rs 31 crore. However, the collections for the rest of the three days for both War 2 and Coolie will depend upon the quality of the films.

It's an exciting time for Indian cinema as these two blockbusters prepare to battle it out at the box office. With no confirmed spoilers for either film, audiences are left eagerly anticipating the action-packed weekend ahead.
