The mayor of Kiel, Ulf Kämpfer, shares his excitement for Kieler Woche, which he describes as a city-wide celebration that embodies equality, participation, and openness to the world. As this will be his last Kieler Woche in office, he's ready to soak up the festivities and savor each moment.
Setting Sail
As Germany's largest sailing and summer festival, Kieler Woche is famous for its extensive sailing regatta program. On the agenda are races for various sailing classes, from traditional yachts to Olympic classes. This year, look forward to about 400 races overall, with competitions taking place on 14 regatta courses on only 10 parallel racing areas.
Over 60 nations will participate, with around 4,000 athletes bringing over 1,500 boats and other water sports equipment. Some of the notable sailing classes include 49er, 49erFX, ILCA7, ILCA6, iQFOiL, 470, and Nacra 17. And for those who prefer to watch the action from the comfort of their homes, daily live streaming coverage will be provided.
