Annual Tournament Hosted by Local Politicians - Karl Mooser Claims Anniversary Trophy

The 40th annual tennis tournament for local politicians took place last Saturday at the SSV Kofering tennis courts, marking a tradition that fosters camaraderie across party lines.

Organised by the district association of the Bavarian Municipal Association, with the initiative of Mayor Scholz and Mr. District Councilor Bauer, the tournament has been a staple event in the community for four decades.

Former district councilor Harald Bauer, who has been at the helm of organising the tournament for the past 39 years, shared his reminiscences about the beginnings of the tournament and his role in its creation with former district administrator Rupert Schmid, who had the idea to organize this tournament back in 1984.

The communal politician tournament is more than just a sporting event, with unity, mutual respect, and joy in sports at its center, as stated by Harald Bauer. State Councilor Tanja Schweiger echoed these sentiments, highlighting the tournament's importance as a tradition that brings together active and former mayors, district councilors, and political committee members.

This year's tournament saw Karl Mooser from Wenzenbach clinch the top spot, with Anton Blabl from Schierling finishing as the runner-up and Robert Goetzfried from Hagelstadt placing third.

State Councilor Tanja Schweiger expressed her gratitude to all the volunteer helpers for the tournament's organization and smooth running. She also thanked Harald Bauer, Rupert Schmid (former district administrator), Wenzel Neumann (former district sports coordinator), Gerald Maerkel (long-standing SSV Kofering groundskeeper), and Alexander Wulf (SSV Kofering department head) for their contributions to the tournament.

The first tennis tournament for local politicians was initially hosted by Kofering, as stated in the first invitation from August 1, 1984. The event has grown and evolved over the years, but the spirit of unity and sportsmanship remains at its core.

As the tournament continues to thrive, it serves as a testament to the power of sport in fostering connections and promoting harmony among the community's political representatives.
