The festival kicks off at the iconic Mousonturm with Tetsu Maeda's belly laugh-inducing comedy, "90 Years Old - So What?" other potent picks include the time-travel comedy "A Samurai in Time," the emotional drama "My Sunshine," and the thought-provoking animated film "Look Back." This year, the festival's theme revolves around the blurry line between devotion and obsession. 💭
Over 60 filmmakers from the Land of the Rising Sun are expected, including heavyweights, rising stars, and some renowned actors. Kosuke Hayashi, the illustrious Art Director, is this year's honorary guest and will receive an award. 🏆
The festival has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2000, when it screened just 13 films at the local university. Last year, it wowed a whopping 19,000 attendees, and ticket sales for this year's smash-hit are breaking records! With over 4,500 tickets sold in the first six days, Marion Klomfass, festival director and co-founder, admits that it's their best performance yet, as 12 screenings are already sold out! 🎫
