The 25th edition of the Robert Canada Native American Friendship Pow Wow is set to take place on August 23 and 24, 2025, at the Fedde Sports Complex in Hawaiian Gardens. This significant cultural event is a celebration of Native American culture, offering a unique opportunity for urban Native communities to connect, preserve their heritage, and express their political views.
This year's celebration honours Tongva/Acjachemen spiritual leader Jimi Castillo, along with several community elders and spiritual leaders who have passed. The event is family-friendly and open to the public, with no admission charge.
The pow wow features traditional singing, drumming, and dancing, as well as an Indigenous marketplace offering arts, crafts, and frybread. Notable performances include the California Indian Bird Singers and the Golden State Gourd Dancers. The event aims to foster a sense of community identity and solidarity within the Native American population of Southern California.
The pow wow takes place at the Fedde Sports Complex, located at 21408 Elaine Avenue, Hawaiian Gardens. To ensure the integrity of the event, drugs, alcohol, pets (except service animals), and the commercial selling of sage are prohibited.
The pow wow runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Grand Entry is scheduled for 12 noon on both days. All drums and dancers are welcome to participate.
