The Comrades Marathon 2022, held on the 28th of August, marked another historic edition of the world's oldest and largest ultramarathon. This annual event, which takes place between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, is a testament to human resilience and endurance.

To be inducted into this exclusive club, one must achieve three wins, five gold medals, or complete ten or more races, earning a "Green Number" which they can carry for life and pass on after 20 runs.
This year, the marathon continued its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with growing participation and enhanced support. The race's strong supporter presence and university teams, such as the Durban University of Technology’s athletics club, played a significant role in enhancing motivation and assistance for the runners.
The Comrades Marathon 2022 was a "DOWN RUN," covering a distance of 90km. David Gatebe holds the men's Down Run record with a time of 5:18:19, set in 2016, while Gerda Steyn holds the women's record with a time of 5:58:53, achieved in 2019.
The race, which started at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finished at the Mabhida Stadium in Durban, attracted runners from more than 60 countries. The Comrades Marathon embodies a spirit of camaraderie, perseverance, selflessness, and dedication, as encapsulated by its motto, "Celebrate mankind's spirit over adversity."
