Announcing Export of Weapons in the Year 2026 - Selenskyy's Statement

In a significant development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans for weapons exports in the coming year. The move is aimed at funding Ukraine's own defense needs as it continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy stated that controlled export will increase drone production for the front, a crucial aspect of Ukraine's defense strategy. This decision comes as Ukraine faces an excess of loitering munitions, anti-tank weapons, and other types of weapons.

The President emphasised that Ukraine will not operate a 'weapons charity program' and will only provide help to countries that have supported Ukraine. The countries involved in the upcoming negotiations for arms exports from Ukraine are its allies who have supported Ukraine, with a new financing mechanism where other Ukrainian allies will pay for the procurement of arms from the USA.

Other states interested in Ukrainian weapons that have supported Kyiv are also on the list. The US is at the top of the list for potential exports and cooperation, followed by European partners.

The export of weapons will be subject to 'reliable control' to prevent Ukrainian technologies from falling into Russian or its allies' hands. An export concept for weapons is to be worked out within the next two weeks.

Kyiv is planning new defense cooperations abroad due to constant Russian air strikes. The President prioritises weapons deliveries to the front and the buildup of Ukraine's own stockpiles. There is an ongoing need to build up Ukraine's own stockpiles of weapons, ensuring its self-defense capabilities remain strong.

Ukraine needs constant new funding for its defense, a reality underscored by the ongoing conflict with Russia. The President's decision to export weapons is a strategic move aimed at securing the necessary resources to continue defending Ukraine's sovereignty.

However, Ukraine will not provide weapons to those who did not support it during the conflict with Russia. This stance reaffirms Ukraine's commitment to its allies and the principles it stands for.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, the country's defense strategies will undoubtedly adapt to meet the challenges it faces. The decision to export weapons marks a significant step in Ukraine's efforts to secure its future and defend its sovereignty.
