The rain-soaked Melbourne racetrack saw a fierce battle between Formula 1 champions, with Lando Norris claiming a triumphant victory against Max Verstappen, ending a 1029-day dominance at the top of the WM. Despite the intense pressure, Norris couldn't hide his excitement, hailing the performance as simply "more exciting."

The 25-year-old British driver stood at the forefront of the 24-strong field, completing the race 0.895 seconds ahead of Verstappen in his McLaren.

A jubilant Norris said upon the podium, "It's the first race. I need to repeat it next weekend and keep going." The second round of the WM battle is already set for Shanghai, kicking off next weekend.

Verstappen Tightens Grip but Stumbles Ever Slightly

His podium finish marked 18 more points than his 2023 Melbourne showing. After a minor hesitation due to tire choice, a seasoned veteran like Verstappen admitted to experiencing a "bit of panic." Nonetheless, he voiced his satisfaction with the outcome, "I'll take that."

Survivors and Saboteurs: The Winners and Losers

Other drivers also left the paddock with varying degrees of satisfaction: George Russell, for instance, stood third in Mercedes. His new teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, another history-maker, secured a fourth-place finish in his debut F1 race.

Visibly delighted, Antonelli, the second youngest driver in Formula 1 history, declared, "I can't complain about the course of my first Formula 1 race."

Bits and Pieces: The Debutants' Fortunes

Unfortunately, four out of six rookies who launched their seasons as regular drivers failed to finish due to accidents. The opening act was particularly heartbreaking for Isack Hadjar, who crashed his Racing Bull into the track barrier.

On the contrary, Nico Hülkenberg surprised many with a seventh-place showing, making amends for Sauber's dismal performance the previous year.

Red Disappointment: Ferrari Falters Spectacularly

The Scuderia entered the race with high expectations but couldn't live up to them, with both Ferraris lagging behind. Lewis Hamilton, their new flamethrower, faced relatively poor performance, ending the race in tenth place, and Charles Leclerc managed only eighth.

Surprisingly, however, Sauber, utilizing Ferrari engines, managed to prove superior, with Nico Hülkenberg clinching a significant victory.

A Day for Dreamers, Shattered: No Home Triumph for Australia

The local favorite, Oscar Piastri, failed to deliver a home win despite the heavy downpour, despite initially being given the chance to chase down Norris. A mistake of his own cost him the opportunity to snatch an incredible victory in his hometown.
