UEFA Euro 2024 Qualification Wrap-up: Spain, Scotland, and Turkey Secure Final Stage Spots
The qualification process for the Euro 2024 tournament, set to take place next summer in Germany's stadiums, has concluded, with Spain, Scotland, and Turkey earning their spots in the final stage.
Spain secured their place at the top of Group A after defeating Norway 1:0 in the final match. Scotland, leaders of the group, earned their spot alongside the 'Tartan Army'. The Spanish victory effectively denied their closest rivals the opportunity to surpass these two teams in the table.
Turkey secured one of the top two positions in Group D, defeating Latvia 4:0 at home. Their closest competitors, Wales and Croatia, now trail by six points and are out of contention.
Previously, Portugal, France, and Belgium had already secured their places at Euro 2024, while Germany, as the host country, received a direct qualification. A total of 24 teams will participate in Euro 2024, with the remaining 17 spots to be decided in the final qualifying matches and the play-offs.
The qualification process for Euro 2024 followed a well-established structure. Fifty-three UEFA member teams were split into several qualifying groups (ten groups: seven of five teams, three of six). Group winners and runners-up (top two from each group) qualified directly for the final tournament. Additional teams qualified via play-offs based on their UEFA Nations League performance if they did not finish in the top two of their group.
As of the end of the qualification phase and before the play-offs, most groups’ winners and runners-up had already secured their spots. However, the full list of all qualified teams is official and best referenced from UEFA’s official website. The list includes major teams such as France, England, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Germany (as host), and others.
