"Annika" soon back in service - Cause of fire still unknown - Annika Tanker Returns to Service After Costly Fire Repairs

The oil tanker 'Annika' is set to return to service soon, following extensive repairs that are estimated to cost several million euros. The vessel was carrying a substantial load of 790 tons of heavy oil when a fire broke out in its engine room last year, leading the Federal Bureau for Maritime Accident Investigation (BSU) in Hamburg to classify it as a 'serious maritime accident'.

The 'Annika' was towed to Rostock port after the fire and subsequently taken to Strela Shiprepair GmbH in Stralsund for repairs. Despite the extensive damage, the tanker is expected to resume operations soon. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with the BSU still investigating a year after the incident. The fire started in the engine room shortly after the 'Annika' set sail on October 11, 2024, but the detailed cause has yet to be determined.

The 'Annika' is poised to return to service after costly repairs, despite the fire that occurred while it was carrying a significant load of heavy oil. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, with the BSU yet to determine the exact reason for the incident.
