Annapolis Election Roster: Which Candidates Qualify, and Which Don't?
The City of Annapolis has announced the confirmed candidates for the upcoming primary election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The primary will help determine which Democratic and Republican candidates will appear on the general election ballot in November.
In Ward 1, Ben Bramsen, Ron Gunzburger, and Harry Huntley have been confirmed as Democratic candidates for alderman. As of the latest available information, there are no Republican candidates listed yet for Ward 1.
In Ward 3, Debbie Odum and Keanuu Smith-Brown are running as Democrats, while Mike Dye, an independent, will not participate in the primary. No Republican candidates have been announced for Ward 3 as of yet.
Rob Savidge is the unopposed Democratic candidate for Ward 7. In Ward 8, Frank Thorp is the lone Democratic candidate, and Will Cunha, an independent, will not participate in the primary. No Republican candidates have been announced for Ward 8.
The race for Mayor sees a number of contenders. Rhonda Pindell Charles and Jared Littmann are running as Democrats, while Robert O'Shea and Jack Papaleonti represent the Republicans. Brooks Schandelmeier and Brooks Smith-Brown are also running as Democrats for Mayor, but their status as official candidates is yet to be confirmed.
In races where no candidate from a recognized party has filed, the respective party's Central Committee has the authority to appoint a nominee by August 11, 2025. The City officials will not release names of last-minute filers until after the Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections meets and completes its review on August 12, 2025.
Independent candidates do not participate in the primary election. However, candidates such as Tom Krieck in Ward 1 and Ken Vincent in Ward 2 have announced their intentions to run in the general election, but will not participate in the primary.
Once the list of officially certified candidates is finalized, Eye On Annapolis will begin recording conversations with all candidates in contested races.
