Rhino Cub Delight at Chester Zoo

Mother Zuri and her newborn have been inseparable since November 12, as shared by the zoo. The precious minutes of the birth were even captured on film for our viewing pleasure!
"We have savored the anticipation of this birth for 15 long months," shared Emma Evison, a zoo representative. "It's quite exceptional to see a rhino give birth in daylight, let alone right before our very eyes!"
The eastern black rhinoceros is a species teetering on the brink of extinction, with an alarmingly low count of fewer than 600 remaining in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Regrettably, this majestic creature has been targeted for its prized horn, leading to decades of unlawful hunting and poaching.
Chester Zoo has taken it upon itself to safeguard endangered animals, including the eastern black rhinoceros, which faces threatening hunts and poaching activities. The newborn and its loving mother, Zuri, are thriving within their cozy Chester Zoo habitat.
