Animal Aid Fundraising Event: Movie Screening in Riga to Support Animals in Ukraine
In the heart of Riga, the Splendid Palace cinema will be hosting a special charity screening of the documentary film "We, Our Pets and the Ukraine War". The event, organised by the charitable foundation "Sofi", aims to raise awareness and funds for the support of animals in Ukraine.
The documentary, created at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, is directed by Anton Ptushkin. Ptushkin, who has dedicated himself to documenting the war since its start, goes to the front lines to accurately depict the face of war, including its impact on people and animals.
Toms Jurjevs, the founder of "Sofi", will address the audience before the screening. "Sofi" was among the first organisations from Latvia to provide assistance to animals when the war began, and the foundation continues to regularly provide support to Ukrainian animals in cooperation with the charitable association "Tavi draugi".
Asya Sierpinska, the head of the Hostomel animal shelter, emphasises the importance of their work, stating, "Save animals to preserve humanity." The film consists of various stories, some of which involve animals left to their fate and people who save them.
The discussion following the film will be moderated by TV presenter Aivis Ceriņš. Ulvis Noviks, the head of the "Tavi draugi" association, will also address the audience. The expert discussion "The Price of Conscience: What It Means to Save Animals in the Russia-Ukraine War" will take place after the film.
Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to "Tavi Draugi" for the support of animals in Ukraine. Tickets for the charity screening are available for pre-sale at the Splendid Palace cinema and online.
