"Angus Neyra of URNE discusses the unexpected schoolboy drawing that led to a deal, securing Troy Sanders for a guest appearance on their 9-minute track, and the necessity of a co-guitarist as his 'brother'"
URNE, the British metal band renowned for their powerful sound and dynamic performances, has announced a farewell tour set to take place in December. They will be joining forces with fellow metal heavyweights Orange Goblin for what promises to be an unforgettable series of shows.
The band's latest single, Be Not Dismayed, is out now via Spinefarm and offers a taste of what fans can expect from the upcoming tour. The track, with its richer sound thanks to the addition of Kurt Bagley, showcases URNE's evolution and growth as a band.
URNE's debut LP, Serpent & Spirit, showcased a raw, bluesy, almost rock 'n' roll sound. However, their latest album, Setting Fire To The Sky, set to be released on January 30, takes a darker turn sonically, while maintaining a positive lyrical theme. The album is available for preorder now.
The lead single from Setting Fire To The Sky, Harken the Waves, clocks in at a massive nine minutes, demonstrating the band's commitment to crafting epic, immersive music. A standout feature of the track is the guest vocals by Troy Sanders of Mastodon.
Angus Neyra, URNE's lead guitarist, has revealed his current favorite guitarists to be Mateus Asato, Josh Meader, and Josh Loomis. He has also shared that he learned from tutorial videos by Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci in his youth, and still uses warm-ups from Petrucci's Rock Discipline DVD.
Neyra's guitar of choice before becoming an LTD artist was a Schecter Hellraiser with EMG pickups. However, he is now playing a Horizon Custom '87 guitar fitted with Seymour Duncans, as part of his LTD artist deal. Both Neyra and Kurt Bagley will be running a wet/dry blend of two amps each on stage, creating a unique and powerful sound.
In addition to the farewell tour, URNE has announced that a new live member, Kurt Bagley, will be joining them for future dates. Fans can catch URNE and Orange Goblin on tour in December, with more details to be announced soon.
URNE's first tour with Orange Goblin was in 2021, and the band has since become known for their DIY approach. They drove their van full of gear 12 to 14 hours a day on their 2023 tour with Gojira, demonstrating their commitment to bringing their music directly to their fans.
Setting Fire To The Sky is a dark-sounding album, but lyrically it's about the positivity of music. Fans can expect a powerful and emotional performance from URNE on their farewell tour, and a new era of metal music with the release of their latest album.
