Angels break losing streak with clutch 2-0 win over Cubs

The Los Angeles Angels snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. The win came after a strong pitching performance and a clutch hit in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, the Cubs struggled in their second straight defeat to start the season. Angels starter José Soriano dominated from the mound, allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings. This marked his second straight start without giving up a run, improving his record to 2-0. Relievers Chase Silseth, Drew Pomeranz, and Jordan Romano then combined to shut down the Cubs for the remainder of the game.

The Cubs' offence remained quiet until the sixth, when Logan O'Hoppe stepped up with two outs. His two-run single broke the scoreless deadlock and gave the Angels the lead. Earlier, left-hander Hoby Milner had helped the Cubs escape trouble in the fifth by retiring Nolan Schanuel on a ground ball. For Chicago, Matthew Boyd took the loss after giving up six runs in just 3⅔ innings during Monday's season opener. In his debut, Jameson Taillon fared better, holding the Angels to two hits over 4⅔ innings. Boyd is now set to start the series finale alongside Angels pitcher Yusei Kikuchi.

The Angels' victory ended their three-game slide, thanks to Soriano's sharp pitching and O'Hoppe's timely hit. The Cubs, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in the final game of the series. Both teams now prepare for their next matchup, with Boyd and Kikuchi scheduled to take the mound.
