Angel's Back Ailment Lacks Clear Recovery Schedule: When Can We Expect Her Next Game?

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese made her return to the court after a prolonged absence due to a back injury, playing against the Seattle Storm on August 19, 2025. Reese has missed seven games and nine of the last eleven since the All-Star break, but she is now back and playing in a limited capacity.

Reese scored 19 points with seven rebounds and four assists in her return game, playing for approximately 25 minutes. Her current status is listed as day-to-day, and she is probable for upcoming games, including the one against the Connecticut Sun on August 23.

The minutes restriction is in place to manage Reese's recovery, and her full return to unrestricted play depends on the continued healing of her back without any setbacks. Reese herself has expressed frustration about the limited minutes, but she is doing well within the constraints.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky have struggled in Reese's absence, currently sitting 6.5 games out of the final playoff spot with 13 games remaining in the season. The team lost to the Indiana Fever 92-70 in Indianapolis on Saturday, a game that Reese missed due to her injury.

Notably, the Fever also missed their All-Star guard, Caitlin Clark, who was out with a groin injury for the 10th consecutive game. The Fever have now improved to 5-0 against the Chicago Sky this season, including the game Reese missed due to injury.

Reese's sophomore season has been a rollercoaster ride, featuring both early struggles and historic production. She was named an All-Star for the second straight season on July 6 and became the first player in WNBA history with multiple double-double streaks of at least 10 games. However, her back injury has put a pause on her impressive season.

Despite the setback, the Chicago Sky are taking a cautious approach with Reese's recovery, opting to keep her out as a precautionary measure. Reese has eight technical fouls, one shy of an automatic one-game suspension.

Reese's teammate, Rachel Banham, led the Sky with 11 points in the game against the Fever, but it wasn't enough to secure a win. The Fever's Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points and eight assists, with Lexie Hull adding 17 points, Sophie Cunningham scoring 16, and Aliyah Boston contributing 15.

As Reese continues to recover and the season progresses, fans will be eagerly waiting to see her return to her dominant form and help the Chicago Sky make a push for the playoffs.
