Angel Reese's Back Injury Remains Indefinite: What's the Status of Her Next Game?
In the ongoing WNBA season, one of the league's most dominant players, Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, is facing an uncertain recovery timeline due to a back injury. Reese, who has been instrumental in the Sky's success, has been out of action since early August, and there is no specific return date announced as of mid-August 2025.
Reese's injury has kept her out of multiple games, including the recent contest against the Indiana Fever on Saturday night. First-year head coach Tyler Marsh has confirmed that there is no concrete timetable for her return, describing the situation as uncertain and ongoing.
The Chicago Sky have opted to keep Reese out as a precautionary measure, as her health remains their top priority. Despite her absence, the team has been struggling, currently 6½ games out of the final playoff spot with 13 games left in the season.
In her absence, the team's performance has been mixed. In the game against the Indiana Fever, Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 26 points and eight assists, while Lexie Hull added 17 points, Sophie Cunningham had 16, and Aliyah Boston scored 15. The Chicago Sky, however, suffered a 22-point defeat, losing 92-70 in Indianapolis.
Prior to her injury, Reese had been on a historic run, becoming the first player in WNBA history with multiple double-double streaks of at least 10 games. She had 11 consecutive double-doubles after her first seven games. Reese's impressive form earned her a spot in the All-Star game for the second straight season on July 6.
Despite the setback, Reese has expressed a desire to play through her injury for her teammates. However, the focus remains on her recovery, with no fixed timeline for her return. The Chicago Sky and their fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery for their star player.
