Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Aspects of Love' Closes Early in West End
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the renowned composer and life peer, has seen another of his musicals, Aspects of Love, close prematurely in London's West End. This follows the brief run of Love Never Dies, his sequel to Phantom of the Opera, which never made it to Broadway despite a West End preview in 2010.
Webber, known for his prolific output and catchy melodies, has had a mixed bag of successes and setbacks. While Cinderella, his 13th new musical, received glowing reviews, other productions like Love Never Dies and Aspects of Love have struggled to maintain longevity in the West End.
Webber's theatre company, Really Useful Group, owns several West End theatres and extends its influence beyond. Despite these closures, Webber remains one of musical theatre's most prominent voices, with a career spanning biblical to animal-themed works. His impressive tally of awards includes seven Oliviers, seven Tonys, and four Grammys.
Aspects of Love will close in the West End ahead of schedule, joining Love Never Dies as a Webber production that didn't achieve the expected run. However, with Cinderella's success and his enduring reputation, Webber continues to shape musical theatre, earning him the title 'King of the killer show tune'.
