Icelandic runner Thorrsteinn Roy Halldorsson has secured back-to-back victories in the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon, while Andrea Kolbeinsdottir continues her dominance in the women's category with a fifth straight win.

In the picturesque landscape of Iceland's Southern highlands, the annual Laugavegur Ultra Marathon took place recently, attracting over 800 runners from around the globe. The race, spanning 55 kilometres (or 53 kilometres, according to some sources) from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk, is renowned for its challenging terrain and breathtaking natural beauty.

This year, the race was won by Þorsteinn Roy Halldórsson, who completed the marathon in an impressive time of 4 hours, 5 minutes, and 5 seconds. Þorbergur Ingi Jónsson followed closely behind, finishing 5 minutes and 33 seconds after Þorsteinn, securing the second place overall.

In the women's category, Andrea Kolbeinsdóttir once again proved her dominance, claiming victory for the fifth consecutive year. She finished the race in 4 hours, 29 minutes, and 33 seconds. Elísa Kristinsdóttir secured the second place in the women's category, finishing 29 minutes and 50 seconds after Andrea. Anna Berglind Pálmadóttir came in third in the women's category with a time of 4 hours, 59 minutes, and 28 seconds.

Stefán Pálsson was the third Icelander to finish, completing the race in 4 hours, 21 minutes, and 56 seconds. Another notable competitor was Andrew Douglas, a British runner, who finished third overall with a time of 4 hours, 17 minutes, and 16 seconds.

The runners traversed the Laugavegur trail, which offered a diverse range of terrains, from sand and gravel to grass, snow, ice, rivers, and streams. Conditions during the race were favourable, with temperatures rising as runners neared the finish line in Húsadalur.

The Laugavegur Ultra Marathon, held annually in early July, is a testament to the spirit of endurance and the love for nature that unites runners from all corners of the world.
