Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan Criticizes Lack of Respect from Telugu Film Industry

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has accused the Telugu film industry of showing a lack of respect towards the TDP-led NDA government. In a press release, he asserted that despite the government's plans to accord industry status to the film industry, none of the film industry bodies or prominent members have paid a courtesy visit or formally acknowledged the government, even after a year in power.

Pawan Kalyan expressed his disappointment that no representatives from the film fraternity have met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to recognize the support the government has extended to them. He observed that this silence was disrespectful and an ungrateful "return gift" for the government's backing.

The tension between the two parties surfaced amid controversies such as the shutting down of theatres around the release of Pawan Kalyan's film "Hari Hara Veera Mallu." Pawan's dissatisfaction with the industry's attitude was further aggravated by what he saw as a disconnect between the industry's expectations and the government's efforts to support them through measures like granting industry status.

The Janasena chief advised the filmmakers to come together to discuss their problems and engage with the government, pointing out that the government has been responding favorably to their concerns. Pawan felt that the industry's lack of engagement undermines the government’s initiatives meant to elevate and formalize the film sector's importance.
