Andernach's peaceful route transforms into a terrifying encounter as hornets ambush pedestrians
The city of Andernach has announced a temporary closure of a section of the Dream Trail Höhlen- and Schluchtensteig, located in the northern area of Kell near Andernach, Germany. This decision comes in response to the discovery of an active wasp nest in the vicinity.
The increased activity of the wasps poses a risk to visitors, and local authorities are taking precautions to ensure everyone's safety. The wasp nest is the reason for the temporary closure of the affected area on the Dream Trail.
The city administration is working closely with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority, the Forestry Office, and the responsible hunting stewards to resolve the wasp nest issue. The duration of the closure remains uncertain, but it is expected to last until early September, allowing for the wasp nest to be safely removed or become inactive as the season changes.
The city of Andernach thanks everyone for heeding the warning signs and asks for understanding regarding the temporary closure. To ensure the safety of visitors, the cordoned-off area has been clearly marked. Hikers and walkers are urged to pay attention to the warning signs and not enter the restricted zone.
The city has reported these developments, emphasising the importance of safety over accessibility. There have already been reports of stings in the area, highlighting the need for caution. The city of Andernach appreciates the cooperation of the public and looks forward to reopening the Dream Trail as soon as it is safe to do so.
