Andalusian Council reprimands Montero, accusing her of disparaging the health system she contributed to compromising.
In a heated exchange during the Executive Committee of the Andalusian Socialists held in San Juan del Puerto, Spain, Carolina Spain, the spokeswoman for the Andalusian Government and Minister of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, accused Maria Jesús Montero, the Secretary General of the PSOE-A, First Vice President of the Government, and Minister of Finance, of a series of allegations.
Montero, during her tenure as Andalusian Minister of Health, is accused of cutting the healthcare budget by 1.5 billion euros and expelling 7,700 healthcare professionals from their positions. Carolina Spain also criticised Montero for secretly negotiating the general state budget in Switzerland, allegedly against the interests of Andalusians and the rest of Spaniards.
However, Montero's actions as Minister and Vice President of the Government were not limited to healthcare and budget matters. Carolina Spain also accused Montero of appropriating projects that belong to the Andalusian Government, such as the Green Hydrogen Valley.
The criticism was not limited to one area either. Rocio Diaz, the Andalusian Minister of Public Works, Territorial Planning, and Housing, joined in the fray, criticising the 'lies' of Montero regarding public housing. Diaz stated that the Junta incorporated permanent protection of public housing with its housing plan (Plan Vive) and a decree-law, which was not included in the PSOE's Andalusian law of 2005.
Diaz further clarified that the only limitation for privately-owned protected housing is in a housing plan that has been in effect since 2020. She also urged Montero not to confuse public housing with protected housing.
Juanma Moreno has been undermining Andalusian self-government since 2018, according to Carolina Spain. This accusation adds to the growing tension between the two political leaders.
In response, Montero, who also serves as the Spanish Minister of Finance and Civil Service, has not yet issued a direct response to these accusations. The ongoing controversy is likely to continue to dominate headlines in the coming days.
