Anatoly Shirokov Unanimously Elected Chairman of Magadan Regional Duma
Anatoly Shirokov, a seasoned politician, has been elected Chairman of the Magadan Regional Duma of the eighth convocation. Under his leadership, the North-Eastern Federal University has opened and licensed the specialty 'Jurisprudence'.
Shirokov, an Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education, is a professor and doctor of historical sciences. He brings extensive political experience to his new role, having previously served as a deputy and first deputy chairman of the Magadan Regional Duma, and a representative in the Federation Council.
In the Federation Council, Shirokov headed a council for the development of the Far East and the Baikal region. He was also a deputy chairman of a committee. His new position as Chairman of the Magadan Regional Duma follows a secret ballot where he was unanimously elected by the deputies' corps.
The first meeting of the eighth convocation took place with an updated composition, almost a third broader in professional affiliation. Shirokov thanked his colleagues for electing him and noted serious joint work awaits with the Governor and regional government. He also heads the permanent committee on economic development, budget, and taxes.
