Analyzing the new EU Deforestation Regulation with our website in consultation with key stakeholders

The European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), set to be enforced by the end of 2024, is a significant step towards combating deforestation and promoting sustainable practices. A collaborative effort between Drive Sustainability, Drive+, and VDA is underway to assess the scope of the EUDR, with Dr. Manfred Zirkel leading the cooperation until the end of 2024.

This joint initiative is based on the text of the EU Deforestation Regulation, the Commission's FAQ document (version 22 December 2023), and the Blue Guide on the implementation of EU product rules (2022). The report, which serves to aid in a better understanding of the EUDR, also utilises these resources extensively.

The supply chain, including manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, retailers, and exporters, falls under the purview of the EUDR. Each operator and trader in this chain is subject to the obligations imposed by the regulation.

The Commission's Blue Guide, a guidance document published by the Commission, is an invaluable resource in interpreting the EUDR. It provides clarity and guidance on how to implement the EU product rules, thereby contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the EUDR.

The Commission's FAQ document, updated on 22 December 2023, is another crucial resource for understanding the EUDR. It answers common questions and provides clarification on various aspects of the regulation, making it an essential tool for those navigating the complexities of the EUDR.

As the collaborative assessment progresses, the hope is that the insights gained will lead to more sustainable practices and a more environmentally friendly supply chain. With the EUDR set to be enforced soon, the work of Drive Sustainability, Drive+, VDA, and Dr. Manfred Zirkel is of paramount importance in ensuring compliance and promoting sustainable forestry practices.
