Ana de Armas Stars in 'Ballerina', Expanding John Wick Universe
Ana de Armas takes the lead in 'Ballerina', a John Wick spin-off that expands the universe beyond its titular character. The film, set between chapters 3 and 4, follows Eve Macarro's quest for revenge after her family's murder.
De Armas' character, Eve Macarro, leaves the Ruska Roma to seek vengeance on The Cult, which led to a $5 million bounty on her head. She finds refuge at the New York Continental. In 'Ballerina', Eve's final task to become the Kikimora involves assembling a gun in a mere 14 seconds, a skill she demonstrates in a key scene.
The film had a worldwide box office gross of $137.2 million but fell short of its reported $90 million budget. Despite this, Lionsgate is considering a sequel or another film in the franchise featuring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. 'Ballerina' is available for streaming on platforms like Starz, which can be added to a Hulu subscription, and Peacock, where all four main John Wick movies and the prequel TV series 'The Continental' are also available.
With 'Ballerina', the John Wick universe continues to grow, introducing a new story and character in Eve Macarro. Despite mixed box office results, the potential for more films featuring Ana de Armas' character remains on the table.
