"An Afternoon Series on a Friday"
In the picturesque town of Osterath, the Evangelical Church is gearing up for an exciting cultural event. Dietmar Korthals, the organist at the Pauluskirche in Dortmund, is set to present his new program titled "Reloaded". This upcoming event promises a vibrant mix of classic and contemporary tunes from artists such as Queen, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and more.
Korthals, born in 1971, is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of traditional organ music. He began his musical journey with piano lessons at the tender age of seven and went on to win the "Jugend komponiert" state competition in 1987. His focus has always been on upholding the tradition of the church organ while continually enriching and renewing it.
The "Reloaded" program is a follow-up to a previous successful event and is a testament to Korthals' innovative approach to church music. His work often incorporates elements of pop and jazz, as seen in the "Populäre Orgel" project, which combines well-known hymn melodies with these modern genres.
The cultural program at the Evangelical Church in Osterath is named "Freitags|Horizonte". This platform provides a space for new approaches to church themes and is free for all to attend. Admission to "Reloaded" is also free, with donations for cultural work warmly welcomed.
Korthals has been a guest organist for the "Stars on the Church Organ" program in numerous cities and churches, including the 2019 Kirchentag. The last organist guest at the Kirchentag was Bálint Karosi, who performed at the Großauer Orgel-Sommer festival event that year.
The "Kulturgottesdienste" of the Pauluskirche, a separate event, features a rock star or band as a thematic central element. However, "Reloaded" is distinct from these services, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern organ music.
The Evangelical Church in Osterath offers a lively church experience, and the cultural events like "Freitags|Horizonte" and "Reloaded" are a testament to this. Whether you're a music lover or simply looking for a new cultural experience, these events promise an evening of entertainment and enlightenment.
