Amnesty International accuses Israel of livestreaming a genocide in Gaza.
Rewritten Article:
Amnesty International, a renowned human rights group, leveled accusations against Israel on Tuesday, claiming they were actively engaged in a "live-streamed extermination" of Palestinians in Gaza. This allegation was made in Amnesty's annual report, emphasizing that Israel aimed to systematically destroy Palestinians in Gaza, thus committing genocide.
Israel's Foreign Ministry swiftly rejected these charges of genocide, labeling them as baseless lies, and labeled Amnesty International as a radical anti-Israel organization.
The hostilities between Israel and Gaza escalated following deadly attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which resulted in the loss of 1,218 lives on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures. Moreover, Hamas abducted 251 people, with 58 of them still detained in Gaza, including 34 the Israeli military claims are deceased.
In retaliation, Israel launched a relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip and a ground operation that, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled territory, claimed at least 52,243 lives.
In her report's introduction, Amnesty's Secretary General Agnes Callamard stated, "Since 7 October 2023, when Hamas committed heinous acts against Israeli citizens and others and abducted more than 250 hostages, the world has been a silent witness to a live-streamed genocide." She continued by stating that states stood idly by as Israel killed thousands upon thousands of Palestinians, destroying families, homes, hospitals, and schools in the process.
Unrest in major cities across the globe followed as protesters took to the streets. However, the international community failed to take swift action to end the atrocities and issued calls for a ceasefire only gradually.
Amnesty also expressed grave concerns over Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, accusing Israel of implementing a system of "apartheid." Heba Morayef, Amnesty's director for the Middle East and North Africa region, criticized the extreme suffering endured daily by Palestinians in Gaza and the world's inability to intervene effectively.
While the details of Amnesty International's specific findings in their 2024 report remain undisclosed, recent developments highlight the escalating violence in the region, Israel's retention of strategic zones along Gaza's border with Egypt, and the worsening humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the total siege imposed since March 2025.
