American hip-hop artist DaBaby unveils a track in tribute to slain Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, with accompanying visuals.
In a shocking turn of events, American rapper DaBaby has released a music video for his song "Save Me," which reenacts the scene of the tragic murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.
Iryna Zarutska, who had moved to the United States with her family after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, was stabbed multiple times at a railway station in Charlotte and died at the scene in late August 2025. The attack was captured on footage by American media.
The video begins with a news broadcast announcing Zarutska's death. An actor portraying Decarlos Brown, the 34-year-old homeless man arrested in connection with the murder, is also present in the video. The video depicts Brown pulling out a knife and lunging at the young woman, mirroring the footage captured by surveillance cameras.
At the last moment, DaBaby intervenes, foiling the attack and saving the actress's life. The video ends with a screenshot of a GoFundMe page titled "In loving memory of Iryna," which is raising money to support Zarutska's loved ones.
Decarlos Brown Jr., the suspect in the murder of Iryna Zarutska, was arrested while leaving the train and charged with first-degree murder on September 15, 2025. He has a history of multiple arrests and convictions, including for armed robbery, burglary, and assault, and has exhibited signs of severe mental illness.
American media later released footage of the attack on Iryna Zarutska. US President Donald Trump is using Zarutska's killing to criticize Democrat policies, adding that the attacker should face the death penalty.
Elon Musk has pledged to donate US$1 million to create murals in memory of Iryna Zarutska. The song "Save Me" opens with the words: "You think you can save me?"
DaBaby is shown sitting on a train, the same type of train Zarutska was travelling on, in the music video. In the video, an actor playing Zarutska boards the train and sits across from the actor portraying Brown.
American entrepreneur Elon Musk has pledged to donate US$1 million to create murals in memory of Iryna Zarutska. The rapper has also released a song dedicated to the Ukrainian refugee, further highlighting the impact of her tragic death.
