Belinda Lewis: A Career Spanning Diplomacy and Public Service

Belinda Lewis, a seasoned public servant and diplomat, has had a distinguished career spanning various sectors, with a significant focus on international relations and policy.

Her journey began in the early 2000s when she joined the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as a Fast Streamer, a role that provided her with a solid foundation in public service. From there, she moved to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) where she held several key positions.

In 2005, Lewis became the Team Leader of Information Policy at the MOJ, a role that prepared her for her subsequent appointment as the Head of EU and International Policy in 2006. She served in this capacity until 2007, after which she took on the role of Deputy Director of International Justice Policy.

Lewis's tenure at the MOJ concluded in 2012, but her dedication to public service did not wane. In 2013, she was appointed as the Head of Mission for the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team in Lashkar Gah, a role that saw her overseeing rebuilding efforts in a war-torn region. Her service in this capacity continued until 2014, when she was posted as the Deputy High Commissioner and Pakistan Trade Director in Karachi.

From 2014 to 2016, Lewis served as the Deputy Head of Mission in Baghdad, a role that required diplomatic finesse and a deep understanding of international relations. This was followed by her appointment as the UK Adviser to the US Department of Homeland Security in Washington DC in 2007.

In 2018, Lewis returned to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), where she served as the Head of the International Human Resources Department until 2020. She then took on the role of the Head of the South Asia Department and India Coordinator, a position she held until 2018.

Lewis's most recent role within the FCDO was as the Head of Mission for the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team, a role she held from 2013 to 2014.

In addition to her public service career, Lewis also worked for HSBC Bank in Edinburgh, Milan, and London from 2001 to 2003.

Currently, Lewis serves as the British Ambassador to Kuwait, a role she has held since mid-2021. This senior diplomatic post sees her representing the UK government and monarchy in Kuwait.
