"Noble Grunt Work": Israel's Ambassador Defends Merz Against Accusations
Criticisms countered by Israel's ambassador regarding Merz's actions - Ambassador Justifies Merz's Actions in Light of Criticism
In a supportive response, Israel's Ambassador Ron Prosor applauds Friedrich Merz, the German Chancellor, for his candid view on the Middle East situation. Prosor shared his thoughts with the German Press Agency, praising Merz's remarks as a refreshing statement of reality.
Controversy erupted when Merz, during the G7 summit in Canada, referred to Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities as "the gritty work that Israel is doing for us all." Critics, mainly from the opposition and the SPD, were quick to attack his choice of words.
Initially, Diana Zimmermann, the ZDF moderator, posed the question with the phrase "gritty work." Merz echoed the term in his response, elaborating: "Dear Baroness Zimmermann, I appreciate your phrasing "gritty work." That's the gritty work that Israel is doing for us all. We, too, are impacted by this regime. This regime has brought death and destruction to the world."
"Choking off Terror-backed Supply Lines"
Undeterred by the criticism, Prosor defends the term in his assertion. "The Iranian nuclear program is predominantly aimed at Israel, but it endangers the security of the entire world," Prosor told the dpa. "The missiles currently targeting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem also pose a threat to Berlin, Paris, and London. The supply lines of terror need to be disrupted."

"The Stress Test for Europeans"
Prosor believes that measures are already being taken, with weapon deliveries for the conflict in Ukraine greatly disrupted, and attacks by the Houthis on maritime traffic between Europe and Asia decreasing. The global community is closely observing Europe's response to this situation, viewing it as a milestone in determining whether Europeans are ready to stand up for their values and interests on their own behalf.
