Amazon has decided to proceed with a second season of the popular series 'We Were Liars'.
In exciting news for fans of the Young Adult series, Amazon has announced the renewal of 'We Were Liars' for a second season. The series, an adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling book, is produced by Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
The renewal comes just two months after the series launched on Prime Video, with Amazon execs, including Vernan Sanders and Laura Lancaster, expressing their excitement about the series' performance. Lancaster described 'We Were Liars' as a 'must-watch series' that has been a cultural conversation topic.
The series follows Emily Alyn Lind's character, Cadence Sinclair Eastman, and her close friends, nicknamed the Liars, during their summers on a private New England island. After a mysterious accident changes Cadence's life, her friends appear to be hiding something.
Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie served as co-showrunners for season one of 'We Were Liars'. Plec recently discussed potential plans for a second season, stating it would delve into the mothers' lives and add another generation to the story. E. Lockhart, the author, expressed excitement for a second season, mentioning plans to reveal secrets on Beechwood Island.
The authors, Plec, and Adly MacKenzie, were pleased with the fan response to the series. Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, praised the cast and crew's talent, calling the renewal another testament to their work.
The original cast from season one, including Lind as Cadence, Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada, Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse, is expected to continue in the second season. However, production has been delayed due to casting problems, and a final complete cast list for season two has not been officially confirmed yet.
Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher were planned to join the cast, but their roles are currently uncertain due to the delay in production. The Sinclair family, known for their good looks, old money, and close bond, have secrets that will likely unfold in the upcoming season.
Amazon's Laura Lancaster called a second season a 'no-brainer', given the series' success and the significant fan demand to continue the story. With the renewal, fans can look forward to uncovering more mysteries and secrets in the world of 'We Were Liars'. The author recently suggested that fans read the prequel book 'Family of Liars' as they wait for a potential second season.
