Amazon Autos Accelerates Into the UK Car Market by 2026
Amazon is set to introduce its online car marketplace, Amazon Autos, in the UK before the end of 2026. The platform will allow customers to browse, finance, and purchase vehicles—both new and used—alongside extras like warranties. The move marks the company's first step into Europe, with plans to expand into four more markets later on.
In the US, Amazon Autos already operates in 130 cities, offering new vehicles from brands such as Hyundai, Mazda, and Ford. The service also includes used cars, financing options, and add-ons like extended warranties. Dealers pay for advertising on the platform, but Amazon does not take a cut from vehicle sales or front-end profits.
The UK launch has been confirmed as imminent by Amazon Autos director Steve Johnson, who stated it was 'not a question of if, but when'. While the UK's regulatory landscape—including consumer protection laws and GDPR—differs from the US, the company sees the market as a key opportunity. The first dealer listings are expected to go live this year.
Beyond the UK, Amazon plans to enter four additional European markets. The expansion will follow a similar model, focusing on advertising revenue rather than direct sales commissions.
Amazon's entry into the UK car market will introduce a new way for buyers to research, finance, and purchase vehicles online. Dealers will gain access to a wider audience through the platform's advertising system. The launch is expected to begin later this year, with further European expansion to follow.
