Enchanting Appearance at the Berlinale - Amanda Seyfried Revives Forgotten Visionary Ann Taylor in Bold New Biopic
A new historical drama and musical, The Testament of Ann Taylor, is set to arrive in German cinemas on March 12. The film explores the life of Ann Taylor, the 18th-century founder of the Shaker religious movement. Her story, long forgotten, has now been revived in a modern biopic starring Amanda Seyfried as the visionary—or controversial—leader.
The film premiered at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, where Seyfried attended alongside co-star Viola Prettejohn and director Mona Fastvold. Seyfried wore a stunning semi-sheer cream gown with a voluminous tulle skirt, adorned with shimmering floral gemstones. A flowing copper-toned panel at the front added to its striking design.
Prettejohn made a bold fashion statement in a black ensemble featuring a bralette and a high-slit skirt. The outfit included tiny bells on the top, which chimed softly as she walked the red carpet. Seyfried, meanwhile, styled her blonde hair in loose waves and accessorised with a delicate Tiffany & Co. necklace and multiple rings.
Seyfried's portrayal of Ann Taylor has already earned her nominations at the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. The film traces Taylor's journey from her 1736 birth in Manchester to her emigration to North America in 1774 with her followers. Fastvold's direction brings to life the complexities of Taylor's character, presenting her as both a visionary and a figure of intense debate.
The Testament of Ann Taylor will reach German audiences on March 12, following its high-profile premiere at the Berlinale. Seyfried's acclaimed performance and the film's bold storytelling aim to reintroduce Ann Taylor's legacy to modern viewers. The project marks a fresh interpretation of a historical figure whose influence has endured centuries of obscurity.
