Highline High School Alumni Foundation Breaks Fundraising Record at 2021 Golf Tournament

The Highline High School Alumni Foundation, a long-standing organisation dedicated to supporting graduating students with scholarships, recently held a successful golf tournament. The event, which took place at the Auburn Golf Course on Aug. 20, 2021, raised a record-breaking $8,887 for college scholarships for Highline High School seniors.

Jeff Ashley, the President of the Highline High School Alumni Foundation, was the mastermind behind this successful event. A lifelong Pirate and a 1977 graduate, Ashley was unanimously chosen to lead the foundation, succeeding Gary Korsgaard. Jack Thompson was the special guest for the tournament.

The golf tournament has been a significant source of funding for the foundation, with the 2022 event raising $5,920 and the 2024 event awarding $87,000 to 23 students. Since its founding 30 years ago, the Alumni Foundation has awarded a total of $1.3 million in 515 scholarships to graduating students.

The 2025 golf tournament was another triumph for the foundation, raising a record $15,173. Around 130 golfers participated in the event, held on Friday, Aug. 22.

The Highline High School Alumni Foundation is not resting on its laurels, however. The group is actively seeking new members, including both alumni and community supporters. The next golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 25, 2023, with the foundation's next major event set for Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at Auburn Golf Course.

The scholarships awarded by the Highline High School Alumni Foundation have made a significant difference in the lives of many students. In 2022 alone, the total amount of scholarship money awarded was $91,000. The foundation's mission to support Highline High School seniors continues to be a beacon of hope for many students.
