Altered Entry Regulations for Citizens of Belarus in Latvia

As of September 1, 2021, it's a new travel rule for Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Russians heading to Latvia. Here's the lowdown, mate!

You'll need to fill out a questionnaire before you set foot in Latvia, regardless if you're crossing the border from Belarus or sneaking in from another EU country, or even if you've got a connecting flight through Riga airport.

This applies to everyone, apart from those with Latvian visas, residence permits, or diplomats.

Before you head off, make sure you've filled out that questionnaire at least 48 hours prior to your arrival date. This form will ask about your trip's purpose and duration, your accommodations in Latvia, and your travel route. It'll also request some personal details, like whether you or your fam have ever been government officials, served in the military, or worked for the special services, border service, customs, or relevant ministries.

This rule will be in place until at least the end of 2027, and the border guard'll perform random checks. If you don't have the questionnaire, be prepared to shell out 2000 euros or get banned from entering the country.

Now, this questionnaire is all about public health safety, designed to help border health officials keep tabs on potential spikes and traces contacts if necessary. While the specifics of the questionnaire content and additional entry rules beyond September 1, 2021, haven't been fully disclosed, it's clear that the health declaration form is now a core part of the entry process due to COVID-19 protocols.

So, make sure to stay on top of the game and fill out that questionnaire before you set off for Latvia. Keep in mind that it's always wise to consult official Latvian government sources for recent updates before your trip. And remember, happy travels!
