Altered Summit Agenda - Alterations in the Summit Agendas

The much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to take place in Alaska on Friday, 15th August. The leaders will gather at a US military base in Anchorage to negotiate a possible end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

This will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. Trump is hoping to leverage the meeting to set in motion a cease-fire, but the talks are expected to begin at 21:30 CET on Friday, without any pre-agreed outcomes.

In the "Morning Magazine" studio on ARD, Susan Link and Sven Lorig will welcome Rǘdiger von Fritsch, former German ambassador to Russia, to discuss the implications of the summit. The meeting will continue in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday.

ARD has adjusted its TV schedule for the occasion. After the "Morning Magazine" on ARD, a thematic channel of ARD will take over the coverage, with tagesschau24 providing 24/7 coverage until 14:00. There will be special editions of "Tagesschau" at various times on Friday night to Saturday morning, keeping viewers updated on the latest developments.

Sabine Scholt will analyze the summit results in Berlin on tagesschau24, while Vassili Golod, Silke Diettrich, and Susanne Petersohn will provide context from Ukraine, Kiev, eastern Ukraine, and ARD’s Russia correspondent, respectively.

On Saturday morning, ARD Morning Magazine Extra will air from 7:00 to 9:50, with Gudrun Engel reporting live from Alaska. Her guests will include foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter and Jan van Aken, chairman of the Left party.

As the summit progresses, ARD will provide comprehensive coverage through live reports, expert commentary, and follow-up news segments focused on the implications for the Ukraine conflict and international diplomacy. For the latest updates and analysis, stay tuned to ARD.

The European Union is committed to following the latest developments in the ongoing war in Ukraine, as the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin may have implications for the cease-fire negotiations. This commitment extends to the politics and general news segments of various European media outlets, such as ARD, which will be providing extensive coverage of the summit, including special editions of "Tagesschau" and live reports from Alaska.
