New Deer Hunting Season Dates Announced for Southeast Wyoming

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) has announced changes to the deer hunting season dates for Hunt Areas 15, 59, and 64 in southeast Wyoming for the 2025 season. The updated season will run from October 20 to October 31.

These changes are part of a management adjustment aimed at shifting the hunting pressure later in the season to better align with deer biology and local conditions. This adjustment is hoped to improve population management and harvest outcomes in these areas.

Regarding Hunt Area 15, it is a priority herd for chronic wasting disease (CWD) sampling this year. Hunters in this area are encouraged to submit CWD samples as part of WGFD's ongoing monitoring and management of the disease.

Hunt Areas 15, 59, and 64 are located in nonresident regions T and J. The change in dates applies to the general license season for Deer Hunt Area 15, as well as Type 2 and Type 6 licenses for Areas 59 and 64.

The decision to change the season dates was made after multiple years of public feedback during the season-setting process. The new season dates now overlap with neighboring hunt areas, and the change aims to reduce overcrowding in some areas by preventing hunters from moving from one area to another during the general season.

Keaton Weber, Laramie District Biologist and former Wheatland District Biologist, stated that these areas have not changed in more than 30 years, and the new dates represent a significant shift. According to Weber, the later dates in Hunt Area 15 are intended to give hunters greater success.

For more information about CWD, please visit WGFD's CWD webpage. The change in season dates does not apply to all deer hunt areas in Wyoming, as previously mentioned.
