On Thursday afternoon (5 p.m.), Mayor Carola Veit and District Head Ralf Neubauer will join forces to flip the switch, casting a warm, festive glow over the city. The tree, a proud descendant of a Schleswig-Holstein tree nursery, tangled its roots on a pontoon in Hamburg's city center on Sunday, anchored with the help of a sturdy crane. Decked out with 900 energy-efficient lamps, this year's tree is ready to illuminate the city's spirit until January 8.
