Almaty’s New Art Museum Cements Its Role as Central Asia’s Cultural Hub
Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, has long been known as the nation’s cultural heart. In September 2025, its reputation grew further with the opening of the Almaty Museum of Arts, a new space dedicated to bridging Central Asian and global creative voices. The city’s rich history and thriving arts scene continue to attract visitors from around the world.
The Central State Museum of Kazakhstan remains one of the region’s most significant landmarks. Covering 17,000 square meters, it features six expansive halls tracing Kazakhstan’s history from ancient times to the present. Among its prized exhibits is the Golden Man, a meticulously reconstructed Scythian warrior adorned with thousands of gold ornaments.
Almaty’s museums now span ancient history, modern heritage, and cutting-edge creativity. The Almaty Museum of Arts joins established institutions like the Central State Museum and the Tselinny Center, offering diverse experiences for visitors. Together, they reinforce the city’s status as a key destination for culture and history in Central Asia.
