Almaty unveils a new gastronomic promenade and metro station progress

Almaty is set to launch a new gastronomic promenade, reports our website, citing Almaty.tv.

The new leisure space will be created on Kurmangazy Street, one of the city's central thoroughfares known for its high pedestrian traffic and well-developed dining scene.

"The plan is to transform the street with improved infrastructure, greenery, and enhanced comfort for residents, visitors to local eateries, and business owners alike," said Natalya Livinskaya, deputy chair of Almaty's Public Utilities Corporation (SPK Almaty). "Our goal is to attract as many people as possible—encouraging them to spend time outdoors in summer, host open-air events, and make the area as comfortable, convenient, and appealing as possible for all Almaty residents and tourists."

The city's mayor, Darkhan Satybaldy, reviewed the urban planners' proposals the day before. He had previously instructed officials to explore comprehensive transformations for several key areas across the city.

During his visit, the mayor also inspected progress on the Kalkaman metro station. Interior finishing work is nearly complete, with escalators and elevators already installed. Crews are finalizing engineering systems, including ventilation, surveillance, and fire safety measures. Above ground, landscaping is underway: trees and over a thousand shrubs will be planted, while pedestrian zones, parking, and a bus terminal are being prepared.

The left tunnel is fully operational, and track-laying in the right tunnel will begin shortly. Around 400 specialists are working around the clock on the site, with completion expected by the end of the first half of 2026.
