Almaty Battles Heavy Snowfall: 653 Units Deployed, 1,350 m³ Cleared

Almaty woke up to heavy snowfall and a temperature drop to -10°C this morning, with snow-clearing operations in full swing since 3:00 AM. The city has deployed 653 units of equipment, including 205 sand spreaders, to tackle the snowfall that began on February 24th at 4:00 PM.

As of 9:00 AM, 1,350 m³ of snow has been removed, with more expected throughout the day. Snow removal is ongoing, with mass removal planned after the morning rush hour. A total of 1,653 road workers are on duty, accompanied by road police patrol cars. The city has used 4,867 tons of anti-icing materials to treat roads and transport interchanges.

Round-the-clock duty has been organized in district akimats to monitor the snow removal work. Kazhydromet forecasts intermittent snowfall throughout the day, with 20-30 cm accumulated in the city and 30-40 cm in mountainous and foothill areas.

The city is prepared to handle the ongoing snowfall, with extensive equipment and personnel deployed. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions. Further updates on snow removal progress will be provided as the situation develops.
