Alleged suspected illegal activities attributed to disgraced Chinese admiral Miao Hua

China has officially alleged that admiral Miao Hua, a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC), is suspected of "legal violations," indicating reasons behind his misconduct may be more severe than initially presumed.

Previously expelled from China's top legislature in March, this is the first time such an official accusation against Miao has been publicly acknowledged.

In the past, Miao served as the head of the CMC's political work department, an influential position responsible for ideological control and personnel management within the People's Liberation Army. He was placed under investigation in late November for alleged "serious violations of discipline," which could potentially lead to corruption charges.

The recent mention of "legal violations" implies a potentially graver accusation than initially thought, suggesting a more serous form of misconduct.

Details regarding the nature of Miao's legal violations remain undisclosed, hinting at the sensitive nature of military investigations in China. As the case unfolds within the military's secretive justice system, it is less transparent than civilian counterparts.

This development comes amidst President Xi Jinping's sweeping anticorruption campaign that has targeted numerous senior officials within the People's Liberation Army. Miao's removal from his post is significant, as he is the second CMC member to face such consequences since the current leadership term began in 2022.

The recent acknowledgement of legal violations against Admiral Miao Hua suggests a more serious form of misconduct than initially presumed, potentially implying a broader scope of policy-and-legislation or crime-and-justice issues. This development is significant, given China's ongoing anticorruption campaign and the increasing focus on politics within the People's Liberation Army, making general-news headlines.
