Allegations of voter fraud lead to Fadnavis claiming Rahul Gandhi's intellect has been stolen

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections were held under the full supervision of the Election Commission, with lakhs of officials on duty. However, as of August 2025, investigations into allegations of voter fraud remain unresolved and contested. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party leader, has publicly accused the BJP and the Election Commission of massive electoral manipulation, particularly in Karnataka’s Mahadevapura assembly segment within the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency.

Gandhi claims that fraudulent activity, such as the existence of over one lakh fake voters, directly affected the results and contributed to the BJP's narrow victories. He has presented detailed categories of alleged fraud, including duplicate voters, fake or invalid addresses, bulk registrations at single addresses, unclear photographs, and misuse of Form 6 for first-time voters. Gandhi has called for the Election Commission to release electronic voter data and CCTV footage from election days across the past decade as evidence to support his claims.

The Election Commission, however, has publicly challenged Gandhi to submit a formal declaration under oath confirming his findings or retract his evidence, which Gandhi has not done yet. BJP leaders have criticized Gandhi’s allegations as "baseless" and a political tactic, questioning why the Congress leader has not provided the demanded documentation to initiate formal investigation.

No concrete official investigation or judicial inquiry into the allegations has been initiated publicly by election authorities or the judiciary as of now. Gandhi has urged the judiciary and the state government in Karnataka to intervene and investigate EC officials allegedly involved in inserting fake voters.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attacked Rahul Gandhi over his allegations of voter fraud during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Fadnavis accused the Congress of spreading falsehoods and attempting to put a seed of doubt in the minds of citizens and erode trust in democratic institutions. He also accused Gandhi of attacking the credibility of the Election Commission without any evidence, which he said is dangerous for democracy.

Fadnavis dismissed Gandhi's claims as baseless and accused him of losing his mind, suggesting he should get his brain checked. BJP leaders across India have supported Fadnavis's remarks, calling Gandhi's comments 'irresponsible and misleading.'

Political analysts expect the war of words between the BJP and Congress to increase in the upcoming Maharashtra state elections. Both the BJP and Congress are gearing up for a fiercely contested battle, with accusations of divisive politics and disinformation.

Voters are awaiting an official clarification or an inquiry into whether such an alleged irregularity has ever been investigated. It remains to be seen whether the ongoing dispute will lead to a formal investigation or official validation of voter fraud claims.
