Allegations of mistreatment at the NKO sports school, as a mother accuses staff of abusing her son

A controversy has surfaced at an Olympic reserve sports school in the North Kazakhstan region, with a seventh-grader who practices freestyle wrestling being allegedly bullied and extorted by older students. The mother of the student, Marzhan, posted a video appeal on her social media page on September 17, stating that her son is being beaten, harassed, and forced to pay 'protection money.'

In response to the incident, the sports school has initiated an internal investigation and sought maximum publicity for the matter. Specialists from the Center for Psychological Support have been sent to the school to assist the minor and his family, and potential witnesses have been questioned. Medical records have been requested to confirm any physical injuries.

Statements have been taken from coaches, teachers, caretakers, and the school psychologist, and those involved in the incident. The regional children's rights commissioner was also sent to the scene.

The Committee for the Protection of Children's Rights has sent letters to the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, the Akimat of North Kazakhstan region, and the regional ombudsman, urging action. This incident is not the first time such violations have been identified in ensuring safety at specialized sports schools in the region. Previously, the committee, along with regional ombudsmen, identified similar issues and sent materials to responsible state bodies for response and measures.

The anti-bullying program named 'DosbolLIKE' has been implemented in schools, including sports schools, since the beginning of the current academic year. The program aims to prevent and reduce bullying cases and create a safe and respectful environment in educational organizations. The protection of children's rights and interests remains a priority in the field of education in Kazakhstan.

At the moment, there is no publicly available information about the most recent person who complained at the event at the Olympia Reserve School Center for Sports in the North Kazakhstan region. However, it is clear that the school, the authorities, and the community are taking the matter seriously and are working to address the issue and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
