Born into a humble family, Justice Reddy graduated in law from Osmania University in Hyderabad in 1971. In 1995, he was appointed a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

In 2005, Justice Reddy was elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Post-retirement, Justice Reddy served as the first Lokayukta (anti-corruption ombudsman) of Goa, furthering public service and transparency efforts. However, he resigned from the post in October 2013 due to personal reasons.

In 2025, Justice Reddy was named as the vice presidential candidate by the INDIA bloc of Opposition parties, led by the Congress, which is the largest constituent by MPs. This nomination underscores his influence on Indian judiciary and governance, particularly in upholding tribal rights and fighting corruption.
